Hi guys,
My car was broken into last night. I had nothing in the cabin
(although they ransacked it)...but
All of my letterboxing things were stolen from the trunk
-my name stamp, personal traveler and 2 ready to plant stamps
-my log book (my lovely, leather logbook!)
-my inks
-my carving tools
-3 lovely sheets of PZ cut
-my sketchbook
I feel so violated. =(

Red, what a shame! You have our sympathy at the loss of your
letterboxing materials. Only a fellow letterboxer can understand your
unhappiness at the loss of some "artistic stuff".
At least the thieves have good taste.
Grumpy Grinch - wishing you happier days

Thanks, Grumpy Grinch! I know letterboxers will understand. I'm still
in slight disbelief.
Just to give an idea of the time these bastards took going over my
stuff, I had an emergency backpack with a change of clothes, some
toiletries, a pair of shoes, etc. Well, they went through that and
threw back my undies!

Oh no Laura! This is such a nightmare! When thieves take things that
are not of much monetary value, but very high on the sentimental value
scale, I think it's just mean. How long had you been using that
logbook - were there lots of finds in it? And your sketchbook, was it
full of great images of your travels? I am SO SORRY!
What can we do to help rebuild your image collection? Of course I
have imprints of all my boxes, but would it be the same thing to have
color copies of them?

Thanks for the nice email, Lea!
I'm feeling a little better today.
#1 I treated myself to a brand new moleskine logbook yesterday. hehe.
I'd been using my old logbook since I started in 2004. The images may be gone, but at least the memories aren't, and I can always go back and re-get some of the old boxes. The sketchbook had some newer images I got more recently, plus had sketches of ideas for carvings.
I'm going to look at is as a chance for a rebirth, and a good opportunity to make a better name stamp. And from now on, I won't keep my kit in the trunk.
If though, any one come upon someone selling wares on the street and you see a brown leather bound letterboxing journal - well, call me up, I'll do some damage! ; ) The sad thing is, that's it is probably in a trash can somewhere. Also, does anyone know how to electrify a car? ; )
thanks,

I Think a couple of well placed chicken feet on the rear view mirror, and a bumper sticker saying "I"ll stick it to ya" with a voodoo doll image, might do the trick ;) Lunascarab

I was thinking that I could start putting a lot of santeria and voodoo items in my car. That might help keep riffraff away.
Thanks to the ease of the internet, I should have carving tools by early next week! I can carve a broken into car in commemoration of my old kit. tee hee.
Thanks, all of you, for your well wishes and thoughtfulness!

Thanks for the nice email, Lea!
I'm feeling a little better today.
#1 I treated myself to a brand new moleskine logbook yesterday. hehe.
I'd been using my old logbook since I started in 2004. The images may be
gone, but at least the memories aren't, and I can always go back and
re-get some of the old boxes. The sketchbook had some newer images I got
more recently, plus had sketches of ideas for carvings.
I'm going to look at is as a chance for a rebirth, and a good
opportunity to make a better name stamp. And from now on, I won't keep
my kit in the trunk.
If though, any one come upon someone selling wares on the street and you
see a brown leather bound letterboxing journal - well, call me up, I'll
do some damage! ; ) The sad thing is, that's it is probably in a trash
can somewhere. Also, does anyone know how to electrify a car? ; )
thanks,
laura

Oh no Laura! This is such a nightmare! When thieves take things that
are not of much monetary value, but very high on the sentimental value
scale, I think it's just mean. How long had you been using that
logbook - were there lots of finds in it? And your sketchbook, was it
full of great images of your travels? I am SO SORRY!
What can we do to help rebuild your image collection? Of course I
have imprints of all my boxes, but would it be the same thing to have
color copies of them?

When I lived in Baltimore, there was a *lot* of property crime, and
anything that wasn't nailed down got stolen. One year, during what we
used to call the Christmas Crime Season, we had all four door locks
and our trunk lock destroyed by stupid thieves repeatedly breaking
into our car. You think the idiots would have noticed that most of
the locks were broken, instead of breaking *another* one. At least
they never smashed a window. When I finally had time to take the car
to the locksmith, he and I had a good laugh about this.
My friend Terri had the best they-broke-into-my-trunk story, though.
She was in the midst of a move, was working two jobs, and under a lot
of strain. Her cats were furious with her for not being home enough
to administer proper amounts of kitty-loving. So they peed all over
her the pile of clothes that she had set aside to take to the cleaners.
Terri didn't have the time or energy to deal with this, so she shoved
everything in a big garbage bag, and tossed it into the trunk of her car.
And guess what got stolen?
Crime never pays.

Red, I have to say, that sucks. For commiseration, you could contact
Blackbird,
who had the same thing happen a couple of years ago. (I don't know about the
underwear, though.) I second Leah's offer to get you any images you want from
my boxes. I should have almost all of them, even ones whose boxes are missing.
(And that's another sucky subject.) I can scan and print, or email to
you. Just
let me know, and keep that great attitude!
